The devil comes to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. Satan is not your friend, but he pretends that he is, and he will do whatever it takes to keep you from God. We once were of this world and a friend with the devil, but now we belong to God and are a friend of God. We need to be such an example to our friends, neighbors, and the stranger down the street, that they would want the joy we have. We changed from a life of destruction to a life of eternal joy.
Satan will do whatever it takes to keep this world in darkness. He is totally against anything that God has planned for us. He is a great imitator of what God does but always in the opposite direction against God. We must learn from the mistakes of the Pharisees who took God’s laws and made them into man’s laws.
We live in this world, but we belong to another world yet to come. But even though we are of the light and should have no part of this darkness. We must live here to be a light for others.
Have you ever been in the candy store? See all these different kinds of candies and goodies they look so good and tempting. They are made that way so they can catch your attention and you will buy some. The world can be seen the same way as having many different kinds of pleasures to tempt you but we need to remember that everything of the world leads you away from God.
What good would it do if you if you went through your hold life thinking you were doing what God wanted you to do but in reality you’re weren’t doing what God wanted but what made you feel could. What is the Lord, tell us in Luke 6:46 46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
Jesus always referred to doing the will of the father who sent him. Jesus did whatever the father told him to do. He said he never said or did anything on his own. We are to do the things that God has for us. We must do God’s will in our life and not our will. How would you feel if Jesus were to tell you depart from me you’ll evil servant? (Matthew 7:21-23).
We had to be careful and just do GODs direction in our lives it so easy to go the wrong way by that I mean we will get so involved in the things that we think God wants us to do; then in the things that God really wants us to do.
The monks who withdrew and isolated themselves from the mainline society during the middle ages or medieval times were a poor testimony to Christ. They kept to themselves instead of going out and spreading the gospel to help those in darkness. Jesus Who lived and dined among sinners was a very good example as to how we should be. We are not to isolate ourselves from the world we are to live here with the ungodly people.
The world is in darkness because of sin and whoever is born of this world has a sinful nature; so we must be a light that shines in the darkness to help those who are blinded by this world and living in darkness to see the light of Christ.
Christians who separated themselves from the world and seek to escape it do not know Christ. As Christians we must live among the people who live in darkness in this fallen world. We live in this world so our light well shine in the darkness, for light exposes darkness. Therefore as Christians our outward life should reflect our inward life the work that the Holy Spirit has done inside us should come out for the world to see and that would glorify our heavenly father.
We live around sinful people, though we don’t have sinful partnership or fellowship with them. We do not partake in their unfruitful deeds of darkness for God has delivered us from the power darkness. We must also understand that being in the world, but not of it, is necessary if we are to be a light to those who are in spiritual darkness. We are to live in such a way that those outside the faith see our good deeds and our manner and know that there is something different about us.
Being in the world also means we can enjoy the things of the world such as the beautiful creation God has given us, but we are not to immerse ourselves in what the world values, nor are we to chase after worldly pleasures. worldly pleasures is no longer our calling in life as it once was but we must pursue godly pleasures. As Christians we can have wants and needs God wants to bless us and to live an abundant life.
As Christians we are called upon to have the discipline to stay away from the things that would turn us away from God. There is so much temptation in the world and that makes it difficult for Christians. Even for Christians who are rooted in the word.
The Pharisees perhaps meant to obey God, but eventually they became so devoted and extreme in very limited parts of the Law (plus all that they themselves added to it), that they became blind to the Messiah even when He was in their very midst. They saw His miracles, and they heard His Words, but instead of receiving it with joy, they did all that they could to stop Him. Ultimately to the point of getting Him killed because He truthfully claimed to be the Son of God.
Priests and bishops made their living from the so-called tithes, a special fee paid by the peasants. A tenth of the crops and a tenth of the meat was to be given to the church. A third of this was used for the upkeep of the clergy – the rest was shared by the church, the Bishop and the poor. The money which belonged to the church was used to buy books and candles and for repairs.
The position of the Pope, and bishops could be bought by those with the most money. They were not anointed by God. The priests, some which were not familiar with the Scriptures would just tell fables to the people in church they just wanted the money supplied by the people. Without the Bible the people were kept in darkness and in understand about grace and the forgiveness of sin or salvation, so the priest took advantage of the people.
At that time the bible was very limited because there was no printing press to make copies in a mass volume to supply all people.
Today we have the opportunity of having at least one bible in each household and yet most of the time the bible just sits there being unread. Christians have gotten to the point that they just want to hear about the Word and not read about the Word. The bible speaks about false prophets and being deceived in the last days. There are a lot of evangelists who speak what the people want to hear and not necessarily what God has to say or wants.
A lot of evangelists today are like the priests in the Middle Ages who only perform their duties for the money. They were not anointed by God. We are in the last days and this world is truly in darkness. We need to study God’s word to give us the strength to overcome the things of this world.
Have we gone back to the middle Ages where the people were kept in darkness because the priests were the only ones who had access to the Bible? The priest could say whatever they wanted and the people wouldn’t have any idea if he was saying the right thing. We have Bibles in our homes but doing go through them and study the Scriptures to make sure what we are being told by preachers, evangelists, and teachers correlates to the Scriptures.
